Protective Materials

As collectors, the condition of our collectibles is of the highest regard. Here, you can learn all about the different methods used to protect valuable collectibles. From Bags And Boards to recommended shelving units, this section can help you preserve your most cherished items for years to come.

Bags And Boards

Plastic sleeves and cardboard backers used to protect Single Issues. These come in a variety of sizes to accommodate the different eras and trim sizes of comic books. Some collectors (such as myself) use Golden Age bags to protect Trade Paperbacks.

Long/Short Boxes (Cardboard)

As far as comic book storage goes, Long and Short Boxes are the gold standard. They are boxes shaped and designed specifically for comic storage and are often used at comic shops and by vendors at conventions. While traditionally white cardboard, some companies use images and graphics on boxes for design purposes. Although these are the most common, they lend thmselves to easy scuffing and damages, depending on how they are handled.

Long/Short Boxes (Plastic)

A superior, and more expensive, alternative to the cardboard boxes. These are my personal preference when it comes to single issues.

Kallax Shelf

One of the most, if not the most, popular shelving units for Collected Editions. The individual sections can house Omnibus and DC Absolute Editions and the crisscross design makes it strong enough to support such heavy books.

Although there are cheaper, off-brand units, I would strongly recommend the tried and true Ikea Kallax.

Billy Shelf

Contrary to the Kallax, the Billy shelf offers longer shelving slabs without the crisscross pattern. This shelving unit does accommodate Omnibus and Deluxe Hardcovers; however, I personally think those books would create a sagging effect in the center of the long shelves. For that reason alone, I would recommend these more for Trade Paperbacks. The different sizes, as well as a unique corner piece, make these shelves a better option for more creative layouts.

Although there are cheaper, off-brand units, I would strongly recommend the tried-and-true Ikea Billy.

BCW Book Bag

Betchya' didn't know these existed, did ya'?

That's okay, most people don't.

Have you ever wanted to protect your Hardcovers and Omnibus the same way you protect your Trade Paperbacks with Golden Age Bags?

Then these are for you!
